The investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has taken a critical turn with new evidence surfacing. Sanjay Roy, the accused, has been captured on CCTV footage observing the victim a day before the horrific crime, tightening the noose around him as both his “confession” and scientific evidence place him near the scene.

According to sources, during interrogation by Kolkata Police, Roy admitted to having watched the victim at the chest medicine ward on August 8. CCTV footage from the ward further confirms that Roy, a 33-year-old civic volunteer with easy access to the hospital, was present in the ward around 11 am, the same time as the victim and four other junior doctors.

“The CCTV footage shows Roy staring at the victim and the other junior doctors,” the sources revealed.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has taken over the case, is now recording the statements of the four doctors to determine if any of them noticed Roy in the ward. Evidence suggests that the victim entered the seminar hall around 1 am on August 9 and was last seen at 2:30 am after a conversation with a junior doctor. CCTV footage later captured Roy entering the hospital at 4 am, with the crime believed to have been committed shortly thereafter.

Roy’s Disturbing Behavior

The investigation has revealed disturbing details about Roy, who sources describe as a “sexual pervert” with “animal-like instincts.” He reportedly showed no remorse during his questioning and confessed to the crime without any display of emotion during psychometric tests.

The post-mortem report of the victim confirmed that her death was caused by “manual strangulation associated with smothering,” and she bore multiple injuries, including abrasions on her cheeks, lips, nose, neck, arms, and knees. The report also noted “evidence of forceful penetration/insertion in her genitalia.” While the victim’s family and some experts suspect the involvement of more than one person, investigators have yet to confirm this.

Roy’s involvement in the crime has raised serious questions about how he was able to freely access various parts of the hospital. As a civic volunteer, a member of a state-wide unit created by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) to assist police with traffic and crowd management, Roy allegedly posed as a police officer to move around the hospital premises.

Past Misconduct and Violent Behavior

Since the case has come to light, several stories have emerged about Roy’s past behavior. His former mother-in-law claimed that Roy was abusive, recounting how he allegedly beat his pregnant wife, resulting in a miscarriage. She demanded that Roy be “hanged” for his crimes.

Further investigation into Roy’s background revealed multiple failed marriages and the presence of pornographic material on his mobile phone. Media reports also indicate that he had visited brothels and consumed alcohol before committing the brutal attack on the trainee doctor. Sources have also indicated that Roy had a history of inappropriate behavior with women at the hospital.

As the case continues to unfold, the evidence against Roy paints a grim picture of his actions leading up to the tragic incident.
