Present at the meeting were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the heads of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The gathering underscores the government’s firm focus on national security amid uncertainty surrounding the ceasefire’s durability, especially after Pakistan violated the truce with drone intrusions just hours after it was declared.

Focus of the Meeting

According to officials familiar with the discussion, the top agenda items included:
  • Reviewing India’s current defence readiness across land, air, and maritime theatres.
  • Assessing operational success of Operation Sindoor and the neutralization of Pakistani military infrastructure.
  • Evaluating the sustainability of the ceasefire and preparing contingency responses.
  • Discussing ongoing counter-terror measures, including internal security and intelligence coordination.

Ceasefire Details

The ceasefire agreement, first announced by US President Donald Trump on social media, was formalized through a military-to-military conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) from both countries. At 3:35 PM IST on Saturday, Pakistan’s DGMO reached out to his Indian counterpart, leading to an agreement to halt all hostilities across land, air, and sea effective 5:00 PM IST.
“It was agreed that both sides would stop all firing and military action… effective from 17:00 hours IST,” said Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

No Broader Engagement Yet

Despite the ceasefire, Indian officials made it clear that no diplomatic thaw is on the horizon. The government will continue with the punitive measures taken after the Pahalgam terror attack, including:
  • Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty
  • Closure of the Attari land border post
  • Reduction of diplomatic presence
  • Expulsion of Pakistani nationals
India has stressed that peace cannot come at the cost of national security, and the focus remains on dismantling cross-border terror networks. As the region recovers from days of unprecedented hostilities, New Delhi remains vigilant and ready to act if provoked again.
