Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash Found Dead Under Suspicious Circumstances in Bengaluru

Bengaluru – Former Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) of Karnataka, Om Prakash, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout on Sunday. He was 68. According to police sources, his body was discovered on the ground floor of his three-storeyed home, lying in a pool of blood with multiple visible injuries. Authorities suspect a weapon was involved in the assault. His wife, Pallavi, reportedly alerted the police, who arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m.

Senior Officer with a Distinguished Career

Om Prakash was a 1981-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Champaran, Bihar. He held a Master’s degree in Geology and began his policing career as Additional Superintendent of Police in Harapanahalli, Ballari district. Throughout his career, he held key positions, including Superintendent of Police in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru. He also served in the Criminal Investigation Department, Lokayukta, and was the DIG of Fire and Emergency Services. He took over as Karnataka’s DG & IGP on March 1, 2015, and retired on March 31, 2017.

Investigation Underway

Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash confirmed that a case is being registered based on a complaint filed by Om Prakash’s son. “There is physical assault. A weapon has been used. There is blood loss. We will get more details after investigation,” the officer said. Police have not ruled out foul play. The building has been secured, and preliminary questioning of family members, including his wife and daughter, is ongoing. No arrests have been made so far. When asked about possible family involvement, the officer said, “These things will be known after investigation. At this stage, not even the FIR has been registered.”

Possible Motives

According to sources, Om Prakash had recently expressed concerns about threats to his life. Investigators are also looking into possible property disputes as a motive. The body has been sent for postmortem, and forensic teams are examining the scene for evidence. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
