Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Railways is all set to bring Kerala its very first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, and it will roll out from Thiruvananthapuram. This is part of a larger plan to introduce 10 such sleeper trains across the country during this financial year.
While Vande Bharat Express trains (with only chair cars) are already running from Thiruvananthapuram to cities like Mangaluru and Kasaragod, this new version is designed for overnight travel, offering beds instead of just seats — making it ideal for long journeys.
🚆 What’s Special About the Sleeper Train?
- This will be Kerala’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper, and it will be operated by the Southern Railway zone.
- It brings a European-style travel experience, with modern comforts and cutting-edge technology.
🗺️ What’s the Route?
So far, the route hasn’t been finalized. A senior railway official mentioned that the proposal is in place, but the Railway Board will take the final call on where this train will go.

The new train will have space for 823 passengers, with three types of berths:
- 611 AC 3-Tier
- 188 AC 2-Tier
- 24 First AC
🚄 Top Speed
It can run at a speed of up to 160 kmph, making it one of the fastest long-distance trains in the region.
