Kolkata Rape-Murder Case BJP’s Locket Chatterjee and Two Doctors Summoned by Police for Alleged Misinformation

The Kolkata Police have issued summons to BJP leader Locket Chatterjee and two prominent doctors for allegedly spreading false information and revealing the identity of the female doctor who was raped and murdered at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, according to police sources.

Apart from these three individuals, the police have also summoned 57 others for allegedly disseminating misleading information related to the case.

Dr. Kunal Sarkar and Dr. Subarna Goswami have been instructed to appear at the Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lalbazar at 3 pm on Sunday. They face allegations of disclosing the victim’s identity, spreading rumors, and sharing false news.

Dr. Sarkar, a well-known cardiologist, confirmed that he received the police summons. “Yes, I have received the summons. However, I am currently out of town and have informed the Kolkata Police about my situation. I am unsure why they have summoned me, but it seems that some of my social media comments have drawn attention nationally and internationally,” Dr. Sarkar said in a statement to PTI.

Dr. Goswami, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Purba Bardhaman district, mentioned that he had not yet received the summons. He expressed his readiness to cooperate with the investigation, stating, “I have not received anything so far. I am unsure why the Kolkata Police would summon me since they are not handling the case. Nevertheless, I am willing to cooperate fully with the investigation. I did not reveal the victim’s identity or spread any rumors.”

Similarly, Locket Chatterjee, the BJP leader, stated that she had not received any summons yet. “It would have been better if they had shown the same level of urgency in investigating the case. Everyone is seeking justice for the victim,” she remarked.

During a press briefing on Friday, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal emphasized that the widespread dissemination of rumors has hindered the investigation and posed a risk to public order.
