Love, Lies, and a Lethal Snake: Meerut Woman Murders Husband, Tries to Stage Snakebite Cover-Up

Meerut: Meerut has once again found itself at the center of a chilling murder investigation, just weeks after the shocking Saurabh Rajput case. In a macabre twist that could rival a crime thriller, a woman allegedly killed her husband with the help of her lover and attempted to disguise the murder as a deadly snakebite.
The Victim and the Plan
Amit Kashyap, 25, fondly known as “Mickey” in his village of Akbarpur Sadat in the Behsuma region, was discovered lifeless in his bed on Sunday morning. Next to his body lay a venomous viper, and early assumptions pointed toward a tragic snakebite. However, the truth would soon unravel into something far more sinister.
According to Meerut police, Amit's wife, Ravita, had been having an affair with Amardeep — a close friend of the victim. Tensions had been rising in the household as Amit grew suspicious and the couple quarreled frequently over the alleged relationship. What followed was a cold, calculated plot to eliminate him.
A Murder Masked as Misfortune
Ravita, determined to be rid of her husband without raising suspicion, devised a bizarre and horrifying plan. She allegedly purchased a live viper for ₹1,000 and waited for the right moment. On the night of the crime, she and Amardeep strangled Amit while he lay in bed, then placed the snake beneath his body to fabricate a fatal snake attack.
Initially, the ruse worked. Local accounts claimed the snake had bitten Amit multiple times. But the post-mortem told a different story: the cause of death was clearly strangulation. The snake had only bitten the body after Amit had already died — likely because it had been trapped underneath him.
The Confession
Faced with forensic evidence and mounting inconsistencies, Ravita eventually confessed during police interrogation. Amardeep, too, broke under questioning and admitted his role in the murder.
SP (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra confirmed the shocking details, noting the brutality of the crime and the unusual method used to mislead investigators. “It was a meticulously planned crime, made to look like a freak accident. But science and truth prevailed,” he said.
Echoes of Earlier Horror
This is the second high-profile case in Meerut in recent memory, following the murder of 29-year-old Saurabh Rajput, whose dismembered body was found in a drum. In both instances, the motive stemmed from extramarital affairs and the betrayal of trust within domestic life.
A Village in Shock
Residents of Akbarpur Sadat are stunned. Amit, a well-liked and easygoing man, had no known enemies. “He was quiet, respectful. None of us could have imagined something like this happening,” said one neighbor.
The incident has reignited discussions about rising domestic crime and the influence of interpersonal betrayal on extreme actions. Many are left wondering how love, when twisted with deceit, can descend into such violence.
Justice Awaits
Both Ravita and Amardeep have been arrested and face charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. Authorities say further investigation is ongoing, and they are examining whether anyone else may have been involved or aware of the plan.
