New Delhi, May 9 - Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, metallic debris resembling parts of a missile was discovered in agricultural fields in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur and Bathinda districts, officials confirmed on Friday.
In Hoshiarpur, suspicious metal fragments were found near Kamahi Devi village on Thursday evening. According to Mukesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), the debris appears to be part of a missile. “Local police responded quickly, notified the Indian Air Force, and sealed off the area,” he said. A team from the Air Force soon arrived, conducted a preliminary inspection, and collected the materials for further investigation and disposal.
Meanwhile, in Bathinda, villagers in at least two locations reported finding unidentified metallic objects. Residents of Tungwali village said they heard loud explosions and saw flashes of light in the sky late Thursday night, which caused panic in the area.
“One of the objects fell into a field and exploded, damaging windows, doors, and the roof of a nearby house sheltering cattle,” a local resident said. Another villager reported that the impact created a crater approximately three feet deep in the ground.
The origin of the debris is still under investigation, and defense officials have not yet confirmed whether the objects were part of an active missile system or remnants of a malfunction or other incident.
