Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is under intense scrutiny by the CBI following the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital. Reports have emerged from Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent at the institution, alleging that Ghosh was involved in illegal activities including the sale of unclaimed bodies and trafficking biomedical waste.
According to Ali, Sandip Ghosh engaged in various illicit practices, such as selling unclaimed bodies and trafficking biomedical waste to Bangladesh. Ali stated that Ghosh was also involved in demanding bribes from students to pass exams and taking a 20% commission on hospital tenders. These revelations came to light as Ghosh is being investigated by the CBI for his conduct following the tragic incident involving the trainee doctor.
Ali reported that Ghosh would conduct “business with unclaimed dead bodies” and sell biomedical waste to his contacts, which would then be shipped to Bangladesh. He also claimed to have informed the state vigilance commission about these activities but faced retaliation, including a transfer, after submitting his report.
The Kolkata Police have initiated a separate investigation into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, following the establishment of a four-member SIT. The CBI is considering a polygraph test for Ghosh due to inconsistencies in his statements during interrogations.
