New Delhi, May 9 - Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri strongly criticized Pakistan on Friday for its continued targeting of civilian and religious sites along the Line of Control (LoC), revealing that two Indian students were killed in a recent cross-border shelling incident.
Speaking to reporters, Misri condemned Pakistan’s “desperate and misleading” attempts to blame India for attacks on religious sites. He described these accusations as part of a wider propaganda campaign meant to divert global attention from Pakistan’s own hostile actions.
He pointed to a recent incident in Amritsar where a gurdwara was attacked, followed by Pakistan’s claim that India was behind it. “The idea that India would attack its own places of worship is absurd and dangerous - only Pakistan could fabricate such a narrative,” Misri said.
He also shared details of a tragic event on May 7, when Pakistani forces fired shells during intense shelling near the LoC. One of the shells landed behind Christ School in Poonch, striking a nearby home and killing two students. Their parents were also injured. “Thankfully, the school was closed that day - otherwise, the loss could have been even greater,” Misri noted.
Misri further alleged that Pakistan has been deliberately targeting gurdwaras, churches, temples, and schools, while simultaneously spreading disinformation. One such false claim, he said, was that India had used drones to attack the Nankana Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan - a statement he labeled as “completely fabricated.”
“The truth is clear: Pakistan is not only violating ceasefire norms but is also trying to manipulate the international narrative with lies,” Misri concluded.
