Mamata Banerjee addressed the TMC student wing on August 28 in Kolkata.
The BJP is calling her statement anti-national.
In Kolkata, during the protests and arson over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, Mamata Banerjee accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of setting Bengal on fire.
She said that if Bengal burns, the fire will spread from Assam to Delhi and the PM’s chair will fall. In response, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hit back, saying, “How did you dare to threaten Assam?”
Meanwhile, Union Minister and BJP West Bengal President Sukanta Majumdar wrote a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Mamata’s statement. He said that such a statement cannot be made by someone holding a constitutional position. It is the voice of anti-nationalism.
On Wednesday (August 28), Mamata attended the 27th foundation day of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP).
Mamata said at a rally in Kolkata that some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh. They speak like us and share our culture, but remember, Bangladesh is a different country and India is a different country.
Modi Babu is using his party to set Bengal on fire in the Kolkata rape-murder case.
If you set Bengal on fire, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also burn. We will topple your chair.
In response to Mamata’s statement, Sarma posted on X, saying, “Didi, how did you dare to threaten Assam? Don’t show us your red eyes. Don’t try to set India on fire with your failed politics. It doesn’t suit you to speak divisive language.”
Himanta Biswa Sarma responded to Mamata Banerjee’s statement on the social media platform X.
Assam Minister said, “As long as the BJP government is in the state, Mamata can’t do anything in Assam.” Assam’s Water Resources Minister Piyush Hazarika said, “Mamata can neither threaten us nor try to scare us. She can’t control law and order in her own state and is threatening us. I can assure you that this won’t work in Assam.”
He further said, “I want to request Mamata Banerjee, who is a senior leader and has been the Chief Minister for a long time, to know how to speak in public. I strongly condemn her statement. I can assure you that as long as the BJP government is in Assam and Himanta Biswa Sarma is the Chief Minister, Mamata can’t do anything in Assam.”
Piyush Hazarika said that a senior leader like Mamata Banerjee should know how to speak in public.
Sukanta wrote in a letter to Amit Shah that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an inflammatory statement while addressing the TMC student wing in Kolkata today. She said, ‘I never wanted revenge, but now, do what you have to do.’
Mamata’s statement is a clear endorsement of the politics of revenge from the highest position in the state. She shamelessly made an anti-national statement, saying, ‘Remember, if Bengal burns, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also burn.’
This cannot be the voice of someone holding a constitutional position; it is the voice of anti-nationalism. Her statement is a clear attempt to threaten, incite violence, and spread hatred among people. She is no longer fit to hold such an important position. She should resign immediately.
The fundamental duty of every public servant, especially those in high positions, is to promote peace and prevent any form of violence. Mamata’s thoughts are concerning and weaken the security and integrity of West Bengal.
I humbly request you to take cognizance of this serious matter and take appropriate action to address the situation and uphold the rule of law. I am awaiting your immediate and decisive action to protect the interests of the citizens of West Bengal and uphold our nation’s constitutional values.
