In a recent operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended 11 Bangladeshi nationals who were attempting to infiltrate into India through the international border. The detentions occurred across the borders of West Bengal, Tripura, and Meghalaya.

According to a BSF spokesperson, the individuals are currently under interrogation and will be handed over to state police for further legal action. The BSF remains in regular contact with its counterpart, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), to address mutual issues and prevent abuses against Indian citizens and minority communities in Bangladesh.

The South Bengal Frontier of the BSF, headquartered in Kolkata, issued a statement indicating that the additional director general (ADG) Ravi Gandhi chaired a review conference on Saturday. This conference focused on enhancing security along the 4,096-kilometer India-Bangladesh border in light of the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh and the upcoming Independence Day on August 15.

The BSF confirmed that the 11 Bangladeshi nationals were detained while attempting to cross the border. Two were caught near the West Bengal and Tripura borders, while seven were apprehended at the Meghalaya border. The BSF has emphasized ongoing discussions to improve border control, security, and management.

Additionally, the BSF has decided to continue close cooperation with the BGB. The forces are holding flag meetings to amicably resolve bilateral issues, and the BGB has responded positively to efforts aimed at preventing atrocities against Indian citizens, particularly minority communities, in Bangladesh. Following recent political changes in Bangladesh, the Union Home Ministry has established a committee led by the ADG to address issues faced by minorities in the country.
