Daughter of AAP Leader, Missing for 4 Days, Found Dead Near Canada Beach

In a tragic turn of events, the 21-year-old daughter of a Dera Bassi-based Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Ottawa, Canada, on Monday. Vanshika Saini, daughter of Davinder Saini of Saini Mohalla, was discovered near a beach in Ottawa after being missing from her rented accommodation since April 22.

Vanshika’s friend had alerted her family about her disappearance on April 25, prompting Davinder Saini, AAP’s block president and in-charge of the office of local AAP MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa, to approach the police. The police advised him to contact the Indian embassy in Ottawa and file a missing person report.

“He approached the police following which he was suggested to contact the embassy in Ottawa online and also lodge a missing report,” a senior police officer said.

A postmortem examination has been conducted, and the family is awaiting the results. Vanshika’s body is expected to be repatriated to India soon. The family last spoke to Vanshika over the phone on April 22.

MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa expressed his condolences and support for the family. “We are deeply saddened by Vanshika’s death. She was a topper in her school in Dera Bassi and had been doing well in Canada. Davinder is a close associate and is in-charge of my office. This is a huge loss for us too,” Randhawa said.

Randhawa added that he had informed party MPs, including Raj Kumar Chabbewal and Balbir Singh Seechewal, as well as other senior leadership, to assist the family in bringing Vanshika’s body back to India.

“Our party leadership has contacted the Union government and also written to the concerned embassy to bring the body. The reason behind the death will be ascertained once the autopsy report is released,” the MLA said.

Vanshika had completed her senior secondary education in Dera Bassi and had recently obtained a two-year degree in health studies in Canada. She worked at a call center and later secured a job in a private clinic. On April 22, she left for work but did not return home. Her friend, concerned about her whereabouts, visited her residence and found that she had not returned since April 22. The family was subsequently informed, and they raised the issue with the Indian embassy and Canadian authorities, leading to the discovery of her body near a beach.

The circumstances surrounding Vanshika’s death remain unclear, and the family and authorities are awaiting the autopsy report for further insights. The AAP leadership and local community have extended their support to the Saini family during this difficult time.
